Coast to Coast: Planning, Logistics & Inspiration for Your Walk

Start Here — Essential Coast to Coast Guides

The Coast to Coast is one of Britain’s most popular long‑distance walks — an iconic 190‑mile traverse across northern England, linking the red‑sandstone cliffs of St Bees, the best of the Lake District, riverside miles through the Yorkshire Dales, the high‑level drama of the Cleveland Way, the wide horizons of the North York Moors, and a finish in the steep lanes of Robin Hood’s Bay. It’s an excellent walk, but it’s not without its challenges.

As an avid long‑distance walker — and someone who enjoys the logistical planning almost as much as the walking — I’ve put these guides together to share my experiences, a little hindsight, and hopefully a few useful nudges for your own planning. If you’re reading this, you’ve either walked the Coast to Coast or you’re serious about doing so. Maybe you’re comparing your journey with mine; maybe you’re gathering the last bits of confidence before committing to your own.

While I pride myself on clear reports and crisp photography, many pages also include short YouTube clips to give you a fuller sense of the terrain, weather and rhythm that await you. I hope you enjoy exploring the route through these guides.

At the bottom of the hub you’ll find links to other long‑distance walks, and my homepage links to every UK and US guide and trip report I’ve written — from national trails to day walks and circulars. If you want to dive straight into the route, start with What to Expect or explore the full reverse‑direction series beginning at Robin Hood’s Bay.
